Salad Days

Between thunderstorms we’re celebrating the salad days of summer. The thunderstorms have been a daily occurrence.

No swimming in the river to beat the heat. {But Paul’s watermelon cocktail on July Fourth was a good idea.}

And salad.

The row of mixed lettuces of lime, purple, burgundy and viridian is thriving in these wet days. Spells of intense sun and heat help the tomatoes along, but the spinach bolted last weekend. Still, the lettuce goes on. I keep thinking I’ll soon wake to a withered mess.

Then the chickens will get a feast.129twigandvine, watermelon cocktails, photo © Sue Schlabach129twigandvine, cherry tomatoes, photo © Sue Schlabach

    Love your photos. And is that where the phrase ‘salad days’ came from? Interesting. Love a nice watermelon cocktail, too!

    Your salad days shots are so very healthy and appealing looking. I grow nasturtiums for salads, too. So peppery and yummy!
